Do Your Laundry
Clean clothes are the baseline of self-respect. Know how to wash, dry, fold, and iron everything you own without ruining it.
Step-by-Step
-
Sort Your Clothes
Darks with darks, lights with lights, whites alone. Reds and new dark clothes can bleed. Separate heavily soiled items. Check every pocket before loading.
-
Set Water Temperature
Cold water for most clothes, colors, and delicates. Warm for moderately soiled items. Hot only for towels, sheets, and white cottons. Cold saves energy and prevents shrinking.
-
Measure Detergent
Use the recommended amount on the cap — more detergent does not mean cleaner clothes. Excess detergent leaves residue on fabric and can damage your machine.
-
Dry Correctly
Low heat for synthetics and delicates. Medium for most clothes. High only for towels and jeans. Remove clothes promptly to reduce wrinkles. Hang dress shirts and trousers immediately.
-
Fold Immediately
Fold and put away as soon as the dryer stops. Letting clothes sit creates wrinkles that require ironing to remove. Fold shirts flat, stack pants by the crease.
-
Iron Dress Clothes
Start with lower heat for synthetics, higher for cotton. Iron collars first, then cuffs, then sleeves, then the body. Use steam for stubborn wrinkles. Hang immediately after ironing.
